Description

MAY MTN/ JUNE GRVL is a gravel/mtb race. 43 miles, (9 neutral, 34 miles of racing) 3000 feet of climbing Three segments with two neutral transfers. Prologue segment: Smooth and Fast Start: First white storm drain crossing on Santa Fe, Just north of In-N-Out Sprint: Entire length of paved bike path from end of Santa Fe to La Jolla colony KOM: Start when paved trail on North Side of tracks begins to climb, right on dirt, left on singletrack, right at top of steep section, end just before sidewalk on Nobel across from Ilumya. END: Sidewalk across from Illumia Transfer to PQ PQ segment: Smooth double/single track with a few technical sections. Slight jog north on sidewalk to cloverloop with bike trail under Carmel Country Road to avoid street crossing. Start: gate near PQ post office KOM: Powerline climb starting at turn off main trail at metal tower and ending at congregation spot at top of climb Sprint: Down entire Tunnel 4 END: Top of Lopez Canyon climb where trail forks with option to go right (you go straight). Transfer to Rose: From top of Lopez climb, bear left and follow trail and parking lots along edge of canyon (you will go through a manned gate/construction area where you will be waved on—stay near canyon edge on left) over to Cobra Way. Rose segment: Smooth single track with a few areas of very fast doubletrack. Some areas with some tricky route finding. May be worth a pre-ride The trickiest turns will be marked with blue tape after 5/17. Another jog north on Genesee to cloverloop under Genesee to avoid a street crossing. Start: After crossing tracks and turning left at Aquarius Marine entrance, please cross another set of tracks behind boat yard at “paved” crossing. Proceed southwest along south side of tracks. Segment starts at metal gate just past track fork. Sprint: Up on mesa after long straight section along fence next to runway, sprint starts at 90 degree left turn, goes straight along fence then left into flow track with berms, sprint ends at sharp right to drop off mesa into canyon. KOM: From Marion Bear main trail turn left on Biltmore Climb. KOM starts at this left turn. Proceed up the trail, climb stairs, back on bike in cul de sac, continue to climb pavement to END OF RACE at intersection of Biltmore and Capehart.
